A conventional enlargement just interpolates between existing pixels, so edges soften, text turns to mush and skin, fabric and foliage lose their texture almost immediately. Real-ESRGAN instead predicts what that missing detail plausibly looked like, which is why results stay sharp, readable and natural even at 4x the original size.

FAQ

Will it fix a very blurry photo?
It sharpens and reconstructs plausible detail, but it can't recover information that was never captured — very blurry or heavily compressed source photos will improve less than clean ones.
How is this different from just resizing an image bigger?
A regular resize stretches existing pixels and gets blurrier the bigger it goes. This uses an AI model trained to reconstruct realistic detail, so edges, text and texture stay sharp instead of turning to mush.
